Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari arrived Nigeria on Sunday morning after staying over two months outside the country.
This was contained in a statement by the Director of Information to the First Lady, Suleiman Haruna.
The statement said: “This morning, First Lady of Nigeria, Dr. Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari returned to the country after a long holiday in the UK.“She arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 4.30 am via a British Airways flight.
“Speaking to reporters on arrival, Mrs. Buhari said she was happy to be home after a well-deserved rest.
“She confirmed that she was fully rejuvenated to continue the work of improving the health and well-being of women, children and other vulnerable Nigerians.
“She used the opportunity to thank her husband, family and well-wishers for their support and encouragement.
“On hand to receive her were wives of present and former and governors and many associates.”
The social media have been awash with series of rumours including a video of the a woman projected to being the First Lady, on arrival at the Villa, involved in an argument with unknown persons over denial of entrance into an apartment, while the hottest was a nikkah between President Buhari and Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Farouq.
The rumoured wedding purportedly slated for the Presidential Villa last Friday never took place.
On why she stayed away for so long, a statement by her Special Assistant Media, Olabisi Olumide-Ajayi said: “Before the advent of this administration it had always been the custom for her to take a long vacation with her children but since the President was elected and due to exigencies of duty it has not been possible.
“However this year she decided to break the jinx and spend time with them, especially since Mr President has graciously appointed Special Advisers and Personal assistants to her.”
Present at the airport to receive her were the First Lady of Kogi, Mrs Rasheedat Bello; Wife of former Governor of Nassarawa state, Mrs Mairo Al Makura, Chairperson of National centre for Women Development Joy Gene Nunieh; Wife of Minister for Niger Delta Affairs Mrs Ekaetae Unoma Godswill Akpabio; D.G. Women’s development centre, Mrs Mary Etta and Senior Special Assistant office of the wife of the President, Dr Hajo Sani.
She returned home to the villa to the warm embrace Family and friends waiting.
